Char Siew Chicken Rice

This is the recipe for those craving Char Siew Chicken. Anything with this sauce tastes so good, you have to cook it to believe it yourself. For the chicken rice, I just use the Chicken Rice Sauce Mix for me to mix it with my white rice before cooking. Sometimes you gotta go instant for the right thing because I have focused too much time on the Char Siew Chicken and the side dishes.

70mins (overnight storage not incl) | Serves 8-10

  • 1.6kg Lean Chicken Thigh (I recommend any chicken parts that are boneless)
  • 2 tbs honey
  • 2 tbs water

Step 1: Soak the chicken meat in honey and water while defrosting and go on to prepare the sauce mix.

Sauce:

  • 6 tbs char siew sauce
  • 3 tbs hoisin sauce
  • 4 tbs oyster sauce
  • 4 tbs light soy sauce
  • 4 tbs dark soy sauce
  • 8 tbs honey
  • 8 tbs sugar
  • a pinch five-spiced powder
  • a pinch of white pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped

Step 1 : In a bowl, add all the above ingredients together. Mix well. You can actually taste the sauce and alter it to your liking.

Step 3: In a big zip lock bag, add the meat and the sauce together. Marinate overnight in the fridge/chiller. Good night!

Step 4: Good morning! Preheat oven to 200-215 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, pour the marinated meat in sauce into a bowl.

Step 5: Place the chicken meat on a rack and back for 25 mins.

Step 6: Remove from the oven, brush the remaining sauce all over both sides. Flip and place it back in the oven and bake it for another 25 mins.

Step 7: Slice the char siew chicken. Serve hot with chicken rice alongside side dishes like stir fry oyster vegetables.
